Job Outlook Optimistic for Direct Marketers
Job prospects for direct marketers continue to look positive entering the
second half of the year, according to the latest direct marketing employment
survey.
"The closely followed new hire index remains at its highs for 2005 while the
percentage of companies planning cutbacks in staff has fallen to 2%, the lowest
level since the survey began in 2001, " said Jerry Bernhart of Bernhart
Associates
Executive Search, LLC, which conducts the quarterly survey. "A year ago,
8% foresaw staff cuts so that figure is down more than 6% from last summer."
Among the companies responding to the survey, 70% said they plan to hire in
the current third
quarter compared with 66% last quarter. Asked what job functions they expect
to fill, analytic positions topped the list. "The tools and software are
becoming
increasingly sophisticated and it takes people with technical skills to use and
implement them," said Bernhart.
The third quarter outlook also reveals that 10% of the companies responding have
hiring freezes, little changed from the beginning of the year.
114 direct marketing companies including agencies, suppliers and end-users
responded to the survey which was emailed the week of July 11. Survey results
are
published in the Direct Marketing Association's Statistical Fact Book.
